Wiley – ‘Wearing My Rolex’

Wiley – ‘Wearing My Rolex’

Quite what to make of this, we don’t know. It’s a Bless Beats production that takes Grime godfather Wiley and plonks him on top of Mason’s ‘Exceeder’ with a load of DSK’s early-‘90s house classic ‘What Would We Do?’ thrown in for extra giggles. This crazy concoction has spawned its own dance – the Rolex Sweep – but doesn’t do anything dramatic. Wiley himself sounds like an afterthought, a mere sample in a catchy house track that has literally been heard before.

Los Campesinos! – ‘My Year In Lists’

Los Campesinos! – ‘My Year In Lists’

It’s probably touched by genius – like most of the stuff our favourite Cardiff popsters fire out – but this isn’t half going to irritate the entire population. Should they hear it, that is. We’re coming to accept that LC! will never be more than a niche concern and the zany sub-two-minute blast of ‘My Year In Lists’ won’t be changing that. A skittish tempo tries to underpin a lot of shouting about “decorating envelopes for foreplay” as a penpal relationship falls short – “I cherish with fondness the day before I met you” is the nice line from a squeaky female American accent, and many may feel her pain.
